In her book, Mathematical Mindsets, Boaler talks about how there are some misconceptions out there about growth mindset and how having a growth mindset is only the first step in transforming math achievement in America. The education we provide students must be vastly different. If students are going to think that math is creative and worthwhile, the tasks that we provide students must be very different. We need to ditch the 20 problem worksheets that are drill and kill and involve students in meaningful problem based learning where there might not be multiple solutions, but there might be several different ways that students can solve and arrive at that answer. Students can learn from each other and their approaches to solving problems. Boaler says, “we need a revolution in the math classrooms today”. Below are guidelines for creating a Mathematical Mindset Community from your website, youcubed.
